La famiglia Brambilla in vacanza is a 1942 light movie made after a song famous during that time.

Italy now has a new Brambilla, a quite sulfureous lady, one of those selected ad-hoc by Berlusconi, not even God wants to know how. She is the (in)fameaous vice-minister for Tourism. Her main activities have been a costly website that does not function and is full of platitutes and a radio message by Berlusconi inviting Italians to spend their vacations in Italy. Reghrettably for her, a few days after a broadcast, she was seen on holiday in Southern France....Her excuse: looking for dog-friendly beaches ! Possibly the trucks full of furniture seen those days coming from Italy were in fact only dog houses.

However she finally was successful. After dozens of years when Italians (including the socialist ex premier Craxi, the one who helped Berlusconi contril Italian TV, among others, who exiled himself there due to corruption charges) went by the tens of thousand on holiday to Tunisia, since the beginnning of the year, the Tunisian tourists come by the thousands to visit Italy and especially its Sicilian islands.

WASH YOUR HAND, YOU TOUCHED A NEGRO

In Arezzo, a city in the center of Italy, members of the Northern League distribute soap in the streets for people to wash their hands after touching an immigrant.

The Northern League is a Government party, aims at being the first party in some regions at the next regional elections (it is already in some areas).

Will Berlusconi say anything about this ? will the Church, whose Pope recently received the Northern League leaders say anything ? will the Italian Church still accept the Northern League statements that they are the only real Christian party defending the Christian values ? or will, as it is likely, keep silent in order to obtain more privileges after the elections ?

In 1960, I was 14, I did my first demonstration, against Apartheid in South Africa. My son is mixed blood, so is my grand-child. What should I tell them ? leave Italy before it is too late ?

What the Northern League is doing is no different from what the fascists did with Jews. Will they stop complaining about the past and stand up to defend those who are “different” ?
