Last Saturday, MUGABERLU* had called his supporters to demonstrate “against the opposition” ! The day before the rally, it was known that instructions had been given to all ministers and close supporters to declare that one million people had attended it.

And so it was, not the number of participants but the declaration….”We are one million” stated the head of Berlusconi’s party.

Regrettably for them, the police authorities estimated the participants at less than 150,000. And also Berlusca and Co they seem to ignore new technologies. That same day, the website of a magazine, published aerial pictures of the square of the rally, showing pictures of the rally itself and of another rally where the police had estimated the attendance of 650,000 demonstrators. Such pictures confirmed police estimates.

Difficult for MUGABERLU to attack also the police as “communist” since tre Interior minister is a member of his cabinet and vetted the estimates….

And in a way, MUGABERLU recognized the fact. Since then he repeats that the estimates do not matter: what matters was the attitude of the demonstrators.

Will such low attendance be reflected also in a loss in support for Berlusocni at the next regional elections to take place in a few days ? he seems terrorized by the possible increase of non voters. Let us cross fingers and hope…..

WEAPONS OF MAS DESTRUCTION: ITALIAN JUDGES

Today, during a press conference, but only a few journalists were given the floor, MUGABERLU* gave his own minute by minute account of what happened when his party submitted the list that was eventually rejected for the regional elections in Latium.

Funnily enough, his account differs from what his own staff had stated after the facts, even in front of televisions ( “I had gone to buy a sandwich” the guy had stated among others). And from what the police forces and judges had stated. But MUGABERLU did not care. He had to say his own version and had already arranged with the public TV channel 1, the Master’s voice, for them to show an animation of his account, almost on real time! And for sure his own TV channels will do the same so that the majority of the population that does not read newspapers will have his version only.

MUGABERLU tried to convince us that it was all the fault of judges, all communists and Talibans, as he said recently. He tried hard to show the judges as weapons of mass destruction of the Italian democracy, following what Colin Powel had done to justify the Iraq war.

Colin Powel was successful, but we know now that he was lying. MUGABERLU was not so convincing, and everybody knows that in any case he is a liar. We did not forget, as an example, the lies he had said about his young girl friend….

Long live to the Italian weapons of mass destruction !

SUBVERSION OF DEMOCRACY IN ITALY

Have you ever had to meet deadlines?

To apply for a job, to pay a fine, to appeal a decision, to file taxes, to reimburse your loan, to vote?

Have you ever been fined for not observing time limits? Or have your requests ever been rejected for the same reason?

Companies are declared bankrupt when the fail to reimburse their loans. Not to talk about the hundred of thousand of US families who were evicted for the same reason.

Our life, since birth, is governed by deadlines, starting from the time limit to declare a new-born baby to the authorities.

And the majority of us have missed some deadlines and paid for it, in many ways.

The same applies for elections for public office. Electoral codes are very strict due to the strategic importance of elections. Even in Italy.

But not for MUGABERLU *

His party failed to submit on time the application for the next regional elections in Latium.

The list was rejected by the judges in charge of the procedures.

His party appealed.

The appeal was rejected.

MUGABERLU’s government issued an “interpretation” decree, with retroactive value in its views, to explain what the law really means (and not what everybody had thought and applied for more than 60 years!)

But such a decree is unconstitutional as, in Italy, Regions have the right to issue their own electoral codes for regional elections. In that case, the central government cannot overrule the regions (unless the regional law is not unconstitutional itself, which was not the case here).

The judges declared, surprise surprise that the decree could not apply to Latium.

MUGABERLU’s party filed again its request to be allowed to participate in the elections, thanks to the same decree. Other judges rejected the request.

And now MUGABERLU declares that his party suffered a violent injustice by the judges who applied the law and calls his supporters for a massive street demonstration. Sad memories of the twenties when Mussolini took the power with the support of part of the population.

Personal laws, as the 20 already approved in the interest of Berlusconi, are an abuse. Calling for popular demonstrations against one of fundamental component of the democratic state is subversion. Such a call by a Prime Minister is a coup d’état.

Italy is at the edge of totalitarism. When will the EU countries, the US react? When it will be too late, as usual? As when Mussolini and Hitler took the power? Democracy in Italy is in danger. Violence may erupt. The Italian democratic allies will be responsible if this happens.

Do you mean that you do not know who she is ? come on…

She is a dental hygienist, working in a Milan’s hospital.

She was lucky enough to be assigned to assist Mr. Berlusconi after his December attack by a disturbed person (but was he really so disturbed ? he did what many Italians would love to do).

He met her, he appreciated her and he imposed her in his party’s list for the next elections.

A leopard cannot change his spots…

And this is how he conceives public service.

THE LAW IS THE LAW FOR ALL BUT BERLUSCONI

Like in any other country, in Italy there are laws. Indeed many, concerning fraud, bankruptcy, corruption, are being constantly modified according to the personal needs of Berlusconi. Since he took power, his majority already approved 19 laws “ad personam”. i.e. to protect one person: himself.

There are also laws concerning elections: one of them provides for the requirements for any list to be accepted by the Electoral commission, in this case independent judges. Two of these requirements are a valid and verified number of signatures of voters and a time limit to present the lists.

Now it happened that….

In Rome, the person in charge of submitting the list for Berlusconi’s party did not submit it on time. Officially, according to the person, it is because he was hungry and went to buy a sandwich. In fact, it seems almost certain that he left the Tribunal to change le list at the request of Berlusconi. And he came back too late.

The Tribunal refused to accept the list and Berlusconi’s party may be out. The law is the law. But not for him. First he thought to pass a new law changing the existing one, retroactive of course. But he was made to realize that this would not work, due to other communist judges, the members of the Constitutional Court. So his ministers started calling for a rebellion in the streets and the Senate President, Mr. Schifani, a Sicilian used to the way laws are interpreted in the island, the second highest ranking Italian official, the one who is in charge of the country when the President is absent or incapacitated, stated that the “substance must prevail over the procedures”. But he kept silent when, due to procedures changed by Berlusconi for himself, the latter was acquitted or his trial were suspended due to expiration of terms.

In Milan, the required number of valid signatures, duly certified, was not attained. And another Berlusconi’s agents risks the election.
The law is the law, but not if Berlusconi’s interest are at stake.

Banana Republic ? no….Berlusconi Republic.
