About one year ago, Mr. Berlusconi’ second wife (he defends the Christian family values, provided they apply to others) stated that he is sick. Everybody though that she was referring to his insatiable sex appetite, which came to light last summer with the escorts case. But is this his only sickness ?
He is clearly paranoiac, believing that criticisms are the result of a catho-communist (his term) conspiracy against him. Journalists are “scoundrels”. Judges are “communists” and “subversive”. The owner of Repubblica, the only real daily opposition paper, is a “Jew” and has a “foreign passport”. Those who vote for opposition, including myself, are “assholes” (“coglioni” in his own words). A lady, opposition leader, in her 60ies is “more beautiful than intelligent” (October 2009).
He has a grandeur complex : his government has been the best in dealing with the crisis; Obama followed his advice in dealing with the financial crisis; he is the best prime minister Italy had since it was created in 1861; he is the man the most persecuted ever in 2000 years (he forgot Jesus….); it is thanks to his advice that Sarkozy managed to obtain that Georgia and Russia sign a ceasefire; he has the highest rate of satisfaction among western politicians; he managed to have one of his closest aides create the Committee for the Peace Nobel Prize 2010 to Berlusconi; it is him who mediated between Obama and Medvedev to obtain a reduction in the number of nuclear weapons; it is because of him that Bush made available 700 billion dollars to rescue the US banking system; and his showing films about his successes to the girls (and escorts) invited to his parties who are then forced to sing “fortunately there is Silvio” (meni male che Silvio c’è - http://www.menomalechesilvioce.it/Video.html ).
All this is ludicrous but he believes it, what is worse.
He is a liar: time after time he denies what he said the day before stating that he never said so or that journalists did not understand; he said so many lies about the reasons why he knew the minor Noemi that a book could be written about it; he stated that never she had been with him without her parents while a few days later it was discovered that at least twice she had been with him alone, including during a new Year’s eve long week end in his summer villa in Sardinia; he said that he did not know an escort, who subsequently made available to the Press a tape she had made of their “night” together, and he made her candidate for local elections in his own party.
And he has the complex of age and of being a little man. Thus his plastic surgeries, his hair transplant, his special shoes with high internal heels so that they cannot be seen from outside and his need of being surrounded by young girls (who receive 10,000€ when they perform well, as one of them stated to the judges).
This guy is sick, as his wife said. But he is also Prime Minister of Italy, a member of NATO, a founding member of the EU, the PM of the eight economic power in the world, the richest man in Italy. And quite a few Italians still support him. Not a surprise that Italians accepted Mussolini.
