Olmert’s wicked humour

On 1 February, Olmert “warned that there would be a "fierce and disproportionate" Israeli response in the event that rockets continue to be fired from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel or directed Israel Defense Forces soldiers.” 1

One wonders how he would qualify the recent Gaza invasion with 1,300 Palestinians killed against 13 Israeli (mostly killed by friendly fire). ?

In fact this is not humour, Olmert does not know what humour is. It is desperation: after such an effort, after being criticized by the world at large, after managing to get even the UN Secretary-General upset, all for gaining some votes at the next elections, rockets continue to fall on Israel (not many, four lately, with no damages). This is lese-majesty but above all makes him lose face. This is unacceptable.

So let us expect 2,600 Palestinians killed in the next 10 days. All this to gain some votes at the next polls and to allow Olmert to feel that he is a great man.

War criminals

Some NGOs have started a campaign to have Israeli leaders, civilian and military, prosecuted for war crimes.

Olmert and Livni issued a new law to protect the military from any prosecution. But they are the real criminals, those to be prosecuted. Not to forget Netanyahu. There is no other way to define them. No wonder Israel did not sign the convention for the UN War Crimes Tribunal.

Easy to prosecute some Africans, and some Serbians. But the genocide of the Palestinian people has been going on for too long (see the article Self defense? No War crimes ). It is time that it be stopped.

Let us find a way to prosecute them. Garzon, time for you to act.

Olmert vs. Berlusconi (not to forget Netanyahu) [or ethics Italian style II]

They are both Prime Ministers.

One of a difficult country, at war (for its own choice), with a lot of internal problems among communities, in a political turmoil since years and with a little mafia...

The other one of a difficult country that managed to survive crazy politics for almost 50 years, demonstrating that it can survive without governments, faced with xenophobia entertained by the right,. Not facing the Mafia and its interlinks with politics.

Both face scandals, mainly for corruption.

Olmert resigns.

Berlusconi ,close to judgment expected to be negative for him, makes his lacquès voting two laws to protect the four highest ranking political officials from prosecution (why four and not three ? because he is number 4 of course!) and to stop legal proceedings for corruption among others (sic) to give priority to so called emergency trials related to security.

Two countries, two PMs, two ethics. True in Italy all pigs are equal but one is more equal than the others.

But there is something similar between Israel and Italy: the Israeli voters seem ready to bring back Netanyahu whose performance was not necessarily good. Italian voters brought back Berlusconi for the third time too….Is democracy still working?
